ABC Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Course

ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s Pre-Apprenticeship Construction and Building Maintenance program combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Learn entry level skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.

ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s Apprenticeship Trust is a state & federally approved apprenticeship program.  It is a National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) sponsor.

YWCA Tri-County Area’s Adult Education & Training Center is happy to collaborate with ABC Eastern Pennsylvania and MontcoWORKS Now! This opportunity allows for learners to gain the skills necessary to enter the field in numerous capacities!

What did you like about the program?

The YWCA / ABC program is a twenty-two-week program, scheduled for 6 hours on Saturdays and 2 evening weekday classes with 2.5 hours each night. It will include both classroom instruction and hands-on skills lab.

Instructors will be ABC trained and certified. Curriculum will be provided by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Curriculum will include 80 hours of non-trade specific “Core Curriculum” including safety, basic math, employability skills and communication skills.

Interested students must be able to speak, read, and understand English. They also must have a 9th grade level reading and math competency. Students must also be able to complete basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Students will gain skills in basic construction math, communication, skills for employment, materials handling, hand and power tools, introduction to basic construction drawings, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and more!

Evin Jarret, Pottstown Construction Technology (PCT) instructor, leads this course and continually engages students in hands-on learning in the areas of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing fields.
